What it is

One email a day, per person, about their own work: what is Overdue, what is Due today, what is Due soon, what has been Newly assigned to you, and the recent Changes on your issues. It replaces the habit of checking a filter every morning, and it is quiet by nature — someone with nothing outstanding is not emailed at all.

On your own Redmine

Requirements

  • Redmine 6.0 or newer (Rails 7.2, Ruby 3.1 or newer)
  • PostgreSQL 14+, or MySQL 8.0+ / MariaDB 10.6+
  • The rufus-scheduler gem, declared in this feature's own Gemfile — so bundle install is required here, unlike most of the suite
  • Working outbound email, since the whole feature is an email

Install

cd /path/to/redmine
cp -r redminepro_digest plugins/
bundle install
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=redminepro_digest
# restart Redmine

Delivery runs hourly, inside the Redmine server process, and only there — never under a console or a one-off command. Hourly rather than daily because people choose their own hour in their own time zone.

To drive it from the system scheduler instead, turn the built-in one off and run the identical task hourly:

5 * * * * cd /path/to/redmine && RAILS_ENV=production REDMINEPRO_DIGEST_SCHEDULER=0 \
          bundle exec rake redminepro:digest:send

Extra runs are harmless — each person can only be sent one digest per day, and the database enforces that rather than trusting the schedule.

Standalone behaviour

Identical. No plan gate applies and nothing is capped by tier.

Update and remove

Copy the new directory over the old one, run bundle install and the migrate command, restart. To remove:

RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=redminepro_digest VERSION=0
rm -rf plugins/redminepro_digest
# restart Redmine

Removing it stops the emails and drops the record of what was sent. No issue or account is affected.
