What it is

A record of the things the issue history cannot tell you: what was deleted, who was granted administration, who signed in and failed, and which two hundred issues changed in one bulk edit. Every event carries when, who, from which address, what it acted on, and — where a change has a before and after — the difference. It cannot be edited from anywhere in the product, and it never blocks the work it observes.

On your own Redmine

Requirements

  • Redmine 6.0 or newer (Rails 7.2, Ruby 3.1 or newer)
  • PostgreSQL 14+, or MySQL 8.0+ / MariaDB 10.6+
  • No additional gems

Install

cd /path/to/redmine
cp -r redminepro_audit_trail plugins/
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=redminepro_audit_trail
# restart Redmine

Standalone behaviour

Retention opens up. With no RedminePRO plan signal at all, the full range is offered and your own setting is the only limit — it is your database and your storage, and capping it would enforce a tier you never bought. An unrecognised plan name opens the same way and says so in the log: answering a typo by purging history would be the worse mistake, because too much retention is undone by changing a setting and a purge is not undone at all.

Everything else is identical.

Update and remove

Copy the new directory over the old one, run the migrate command, restart. To remove:

RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=redminepro_audit_trail VERSION=0
rm -rf plugins/redminepro_audit_trail
# restart Redmine

That deletes the recorded events. Export first if you need them.
