What hosted Redmine actually means, which kinds of host exist, and the six questions worth asking any of them — including us.
Hosted Redmine is Redmine run for you by a provider, rather than installed on a server you own. The provider is responsible for the machine, the Ruby and Rails stack, the database, security patching, upgrades and backups; you get a working Redmine at a web address and configure the application itself. Hosted Redmine providers differ most in one place that is easy to miss when comparing them: whether they give you the Redmine administration panel or keep it.
That is the whole framing of this page. Price is the easiest thing to compare across hosts and the least likely to be what you regret. Admin access, the exit path and the migration story are harder to compare and are what people actually change vendors over.
Three kinds of hosted Redmine are on the market, and they are different products rather than different price points.
Free shared instances. HostedRedmine.com is the long-standing one. It is still running: its own site states that the platform has joined Planio and that HostedRedmine.com by Planio remains free for existing users, while pointing anyone wanting their own Redmine towards Planio's paid product. That is the position as of 14 August 2026 — whether new free accounts are still being accepted is not stated there, so check directly rather than relying on this page. A free shared instance is a legitimate way to try Redmine and see whether the model fits your team. It is a poor place to put work that carries a compliance requirement, a data-residency answer, or an expectation that someone restores a backup for you.
Restricted managed hosts. The larger category. The provider runs everything well and hands you a reduced Redmine: no administration panel, or a curated subset of it. Changing a tracker or a permission means a support request. This is a reasonable engineering trade on their side — fewer configurations means a cheaper support surface — and a real constraint on yours. It rarely appears on a pricing page, which is why it is worth asking before you migrate. Every provider we know of, compared with published prices.
Full-admin hosted. The provider runs the infrastructure and leaves the application to you. That is what RedminePRO is: stock open-source Redmine on AWS, the standard administration panel on every plan from Startup, in a region you choose. We are not the only vendor who could offer this, but it is uncommon enough that it is worth checking rather than assuming.

If a host answers the first four well, the last two are negotiable. If it answers the first one badly, the rest is decoration — you will be running your process through somebody else's ticket queue.
Worth saying plainly, because the category oversells itself. Hosting removes the server and the upgrade weekend. It does not configure Redmine for your team, decide your tracker taxonomy, or stop an unmaintained plugin from being unmaintained. Redmine out of the box is dense, and the work of shaping it into something a team will actually use is yours in every hosting model, including ours. What changes is that the work is now configuration rather than sysadmin.
